7 Must-haves in your bag

Magazine editors love to preach which mascara or lipstick women should pack in their bag. Can this really help when our button pops or we have a tear on our clothes?

So this post is a guide to essentials of a well-packed bag- things that will keep you organized and also fix a wadrobe malfunction.

1) Safety pins:

If a button or a seam pops safety pins can help. A small one can pinch hit for a necklace clasp if yours suddenly breaks .

2) Hand Lotion :

In the small business world ,you will be doing a lot of hand-shaking and no one wants to shake a hand that is dry and chapped.

Ewwwwww!

So make sure you have your favorite smelling hand lotion in your bag.

3) Mini Notebook:

Every woman needs to carry around a mini notebook. I always carry a mini notebook with me so that I can write down all of those brilliant ideas that come while riding in a bus or while drinking coffee.

4) Hair Brush :

You can't resist to roll down the window on the highway because it is a beautiful day .

I can't either!

Now your hair is like a rats nest and you have a presentation in few minutes.

That is why a hair brush should always be handy in case of these situations .

5) Perfumes :

Having a mini bottle of perfume is a good thing to have in your bag .

NB : Make sure the scent that you choose is not overwhelming.

6) Extra Earrings :

To be honest, I misplace most of earrings ( if prefer studs)  so i always keep a pair in my bag just in case I misplace the ones I wore before.

7) Hand Sanitizers :

Germs are everywhere and you never know who is sick at the office. Keeping one in your bag is really important.

Book Review

After writing my final exams, I visited my old auntie's house for the first time . My aunt is a good reader. She has collections of novels in her bookshelf .
Living with my old aunt is really a big deal because everything is done in a really Old-fashioned way. Okrrrrrr! My aunt is very paranoid.
TBH,  I enjoyed staying in her place because she has a lot of stories to tell and I have lots of novels to read.
PS : I am reviewing old novels because that is what I got from my aunts book shelf.

1) Till the sun shines through

Author - Anne Bennett
Genre - Domestic Fiction

This novel is written in 2003 (found it in my auntie's book shelf) . It is a story of a young girl Bridie McCarthy who loved her family's farm in Senegal even though she was forced to work hard.
As Bridie began to grow into a young adult her Uncle ( Francis)  started to make passes at her.
He succeeded in raping her.
After the rape, Bridie found out that she was pregnant , she had to run away from her home to meet her married sister ( Mary)  in Birmingham.
Bridie aborted the pregnancy, married Tom who accepted her past.
But her fate changes when the World War II looms.
This story is a heart touching one because it shows fate can really treat a human.
I think you should read it too!

2) The Personal Shopper

Author - Carmen Reid
Genre- Contemporary Romance
Year published - 2007

The personal shopper is the tale of Annie Valentine a single mum of two who works in a posh London department store as a personal shopper.
She helps the extremely wealthy invent and reinvent themselves through clothes & accessories .She is a sweet heart of a character and she runs afoul of a horrid boss and the occasional whiny customers more often than she should.
Annie struggles to give her two children everything without the without the means to do so consistently.
From teenage drama with her daughter Lana to work challenges due to a snaky boss threatened by her success to man troubles as she struggles to balance what she thinks she wants with what she really needs.
She is a Likeable character and I most confess I occasionally found myself wanting to hold my hands over her mouth to stop her from calling everyone ' Babes'. Lol!
All in all this was a cute, fun, light, comic tale of one woman's effort to hold it together , all the time.
I think you should read it too!

3)  A Northern Light

Author - Jennifer Donnelly
Genre : Mystery, Historical Fiction, Young adult fiction .
Year published - 2003

Jennifer Donnelly combines a mystery with a coming-of-age story about a girl choosing among education, family, obligations, romance.
The mystery derives an event, the death in 1906 of a young woman in Northern New-York.
16 year old Mattie Girly is working for the summer at the hotel where the murdered woman has been staying and has given Mattie letters to burn.
As the details emerge about a possible murder, Mattie struggles with whether to turn them over to the police or to burn the letters.
She also wrestles with a deathbed promise to her mother to stay and raise her younger siblings.
Mattie, who loves language and excels at creative writing, longs to go to New York City for college, encouraged by a feminist schoolteacher.
The story’s structure reflects the two promises at issue, with chapters narrated in present tense set at the hotel during the summer and chapters in past tense set during the preceding year when her mother died.
The chapters from the past take their headings from new words Mattie is learning from her dictionary, a device that grows a bit tedious, as do the myriad details about the farming life.
Issues about racism and women’s rights are more deftly woven into the action. While tighter writing would have enhanced the work, this is nevertheless an absorbing story that will appeal strongly to the growing number of historical fiction fans
Thanks for reading.

Ways to increase Happiness

Many people believe that happiness is having fun at a party, the thrill and passion of sex, the excitment or the delights of a fine meal.

These are wonderful experiences to be cherished but they are not happiness.

These  experiences are just the definition of pleasure. They are just experiences to have & let pass. A  meal to savour, then digest. A party to enjoy and let wind down. A passion to enjoy and warm afterglow to linger on.

Chasing happiness is not pleasure .

Happiness is when your life fulfills your needs. In other words, happiness comes when you feel fulfiled & satisfied. It is a feeling of contentment.

Below are some ways to increase your happiness ;

1) Start each day with a smile : When you smile, you not only trigger smile muscles in others you also benefit.
Smiling activates neural brain circuits associated with well-being and happiness. It also feels good to smile,  especially when you do it regularly.

2) Do what you're most passionate about : Pursuing your passion is highly conducive to increased happiness and contrary to a mistaken notion that to do so is selfish. When you do what you are most passionate about, you are helping develop your potential,  contributing to higher self-esteem & overall well-being.

3)  Choose to be positive and see the best in every situation : A positive attitude increases happiness and well-being.  If you have always seen life as a glass half-empty proposition, turn that assumption around and strive to see situations as a glass half-full.

4) Live in the moment: Worrying about the past or anxiety about the future is just a waste of time. In order to add to your happiness quotient, change your mindset so that you can live in the present.
When you do that you are more aware of your surroundings, how you feel, family, friends ,co-workers and everything in your immediate environment .
Being present is a pro-active way to increase your happiness.

5) Connect with others : Social connection boosts happiness and well-being. Research found out that happiness is a " collective phenomenon " with people 's happiness dependent on the happiness of those with whom they connect.

6) Walk in nature : Walking in nature helps to improve your mood and also triggers happiness.

7) Read Inspirational blog posts : I do this a lot whenever I feel sad, it improves my mood and motivates me also.  I think you should try it too.

Being a girl

Being a girl is very fun because of our features which makes us special and we get a lot of respect from that.

Girls are really beautiful and i honestly like being a girl because we have access to a lot of things which guys don't.

We have the tools to enhance our appearance and makes ourselves prettier with the use of make-up and other accessories.

Girls have so many clothing options that we can even wear guys clothes, but if they wear ours they look funny. Lol!

We are willing to take risks, experiment and try new things without using sight of our values.

We are emotional and we are not ridiculed for that reason because we are female. We laugh at ourselves, manage to pull off the worst jokes and brighten a room with laughter.

We aren't afraid to sing at the top of our lungs, even if it's off-key. We dance like idiots without the fear of what others think.

Girls see beauty in the world around us and constantly strive to learn more about it. We are also compassionate and emphathetic.

We think for ourselves and take other's opinon into considerations, we face our fears and overcome them.

We have the strength to be hurt but not broken. We forgive easily and accept an apology gracefully.

I love my existence as a girl, do you?
